The Brief

A Cornflake smart home automation system was already installed in this magnificent Grade II Listed Tudor property. When it was sold to new owners, we visited them to demonstrate how it worked as part of our Concierge service. Three months later, they called to ask us for some advice, as they were ‘making a few changes’. These changes were, in fact, a multi-million-pound refurbishment for which they required discrete smart home technology solutions in every room, together with a home cinema. For this, we had to consider how the clients would use each room, how the function of the rooms might change in the future and how to futureproof the property.

The Project

Cornflake is a specialist at installing bespoke smart home solutions in period properties and historic homes, always respecting the fabric and architecture of the building. For this project in an historically important Grade II Listed manor house, we delivered a simple, easy to use integrated home automation system that was almost invisible in every aspect.

Working closely with the architects and interior designers on the project, there were a number of challenges, specifically concerning the installation of cable routes throughout the 13,000sq.ft. property, together with the choice of speakers, as the property’s listed status restricted a lot of standard options. We worked on a room-by-room basis to ensure that all audio and visual systems were ideal for use in each room.

Smart Security

We created a centralised services location serving the main house and as a distribution point for all other wings of the property. Using our custom-designed graphic user interface on fixed and roaming i-pads, we incorporated all capabilities including specialist sub-systems for smart security: fire alarm, intruder alarm, CCTV and BMS (building management system).

Smart Lighting

Throughout the property is stylish smart lighting, which can be pre-set, controlled and dimmed using the Cornflake personalised app on a room-by-room basis. This also includes intuitive LED lighting for the home cinema and the gym.

Smart Electronic Blinds and Curtains

We installed smart electronic shading solutions in different parts of the home, with curtains on motorised runners that would not adversely affect the fabric of the building. These could all be pre-set to open and close simultaneously in each room.

Smart Audio-Visual

An energy efficient solution, smart heating and cooling is pre-set for every room in the home and can be pre-programmed using the Cornflake graphic user interface. Time-saving, it also works with smart blinds and curtains to keep rooms cool in the summer months and warm in winter.

Home Cinema

With space already allocated for a home cinema in the property, we designed and installed a Cinema with an acoustic ceiling and acoustic panelling to dampen any sound in the space.
